A former driver for an adult day care was found guilty Thursday of sexually assaulting and impregnating a deaf and mentally disabled patient.

A Tarrant County jury deliberated about two days before finding Edgar Lane Sharp Jr., 34, guilty of aggravated sexual assault of a disabled person. The punishment phase of the trial begins Thursday afternoon.

He faces up to life in prison.

The sexual assault came to light in July 2017, after the victim’s mother took her daughter to the doctor and learned that her daughter was 11 weeks pregnant.

The victim, an MHMR client who was 24 at the time of the sexual assault, has a mental capacity of a 10-year-old child, according to a police affidavit.

According to the affidavit, Sharp was employed by the C3 Christian Academy in Grand Prairie, an adult day care and healthcare provider where the victim attended “dayhab.”

He drove the victim to and from the facility and is believed to have had sex with the victim at his Fort Worth apartment, according to the affidavit.
