Trial begins for adult daycare worker accused of impregnating deaf, disabled woman
A trial is under way for a former employee of an adult day care accused of sexually assaulting and impregnating a deaf and mentally disabled patient.
Edgar Lane Sharp Jr., 34, is accused of aggravated sexual assault of a disabled person, a first-degree felony. The alleged victim, an MHMR client, was 24 at the time of the alleged assault but had the mental capacity of a 10-year-old child, according to a police affidavit.
The alleged incident came to light in July 2017, after the woman’s mother took her daughter to the doctor because she was not feeling well. She learned that her daughter was 11 weeks pregnant.
The mother reported the incident to Fort Worth police.
According to the affidavit, the alleged victim had been going to “dayhab” at C3 Christian Academy in Grand Prairie, an adult day care and healthcare provider.
In an interview with Adult Protective Services, the woman wrote down the names of men working at the dayhab, then circled Sharp’s name as the employee who had had sex with her. She said the encounter happened at a house and not at dayhab.
An administrator for the C3 Christian Academy later told Fort Worth police Detective K.F. Adcock that Sharp had worked there since January 2017, but left after being told that the alleged victim was pregnant.
Sharp worked as a driver for the company and would pick up the woman every day, take her to dayhab, then bring her home, the affidavit states.
The mother told police that because she had to leave for work early, Sharp would pick her daughter up first in his own car rather than the company van. The daughter was also the last one dropped off at home every evening, the affidavit states.
Investigators believe the sexual assault happened at Sharp’s Fort Worth apartment.
Sharp was arrested in Oklahoma City in August, court records show. He remains held in the Tarrant County Jail with bail set at $100,000 in the case.
