Irving music teacher faces new charges of inappropriately touching students in classroom

An Irving music teacher faces additional charges following accusations he inappropriately touched a child, police said Friday.

Edmund Charles Barrera used to be a teacher at Lee Britain Elementary School. A 9-year-old said Berrara inappropriately touched her while he was a teacher, police said.

In May 2018, a 10-year-old girl told her parents that Barrera had molested her for years and touched her over her clothing. Barrera was arrested at the time and police investigated other accusations that he had made “unwanted contact” with several other girls.

On Friday, Barrera was again arrested and has since bonded out.

“The Irving Police Department is encouraging parents to speak with their children about the dangers of inappropriate contact,” police said in a press release. “Any parent who feels their child may have been touched inappropriately is urged to report the matter to law enforcement.”
