DPS trooper shot in Frisco, police still searching for suspect
A Department of Public Safety trooper was shot in Frisco and police were still searching for a suspect Friday evening.
The trooper was shot while working a traffic stop on Dallas North Tollway at 2:25 p.m., DPS said in a statement about 5 p.m.
Police said the trooper tried to stop a car for a traffic violation. Instead of stopping, the driver evaded the trooper and drove into the La Valencia at Starwood Apartments in the 6800 block of Lebanon Road.
There, the driver stopped the car and at some point shot the trooper, police said.
The trooper was taken to a hospital, where he was undergoing treatment. He was in stable condition prior to surgery at Texas Health Presbyterian in Plano, WFAA reported.
At a press conference, authorities asked that residents in the area stay in their homes. The shooter was believed to still be in the area, police said.
As of 7:50 p.m., there was still a large police presence at the apartment complex, and the entrance was blocked off.
Starwood Montessori School was also put on lockdown during the incident and was releasing students one at a time, WFAA reported.
Frisco police had over a mile of roadway shut down as they responded to the situation.
Police initially said Eastbound Lebanon Road and southbound Dallas Parkway south of Lebanon were closed.
As of about 7 p.m., southbound Dallas Parkway had reopened. However, motorists and residents are still urged to avoid the area if possible, as this remains an active scene, police said.
The FBI, Department of Public Safety and police from Frisco, Plano and McKinney were working the incident, WFAA reported.
SWAT and a horde of police cars were outside the La Valencia at Starwood Apartments.
