A 12-year Dallas police veteran was arrested on an injury to a child charge on Thursday, the department said Friday.

Courtney Thornton was arrested Thursday by officers out of Rockwall County, according to the Dallas police department. He was arrested on a warrant out of Royse City for third degree injury to a child, police said.

Royse City is about 30 miles east of Dallas.

Thornton is a 12-year veteran with the department and works with the Central Patrol Division, Dallas police said in a release. He was placed on administrative leave for the criminal and administrative investigations.

On Oct. 13, Dallas police Sgt. Jamie L. McDonald was also arrested by the Royse City Police Department and charged with felony injury to a child.

McDonald was arrested after the father picked up his children and noticed bruising on his daughter’s face, according to The Dallas Morning News.

In an email to the Star-Telegram, the father of the children said he had reported that McDonald choked his son in March 2018. But during divorce hearings, the judge refused to hear the motion that would have detailed the alleged abuse, he said.
