Fort Worth woman critically injured after grandfather shoots her, family says

A 25-year-old woman was shot during a fight with her grandfather in Fort Worth on Wednesday afternoon.

Police were called to the 900 block of East Richmond Avenue just before 12:30 p.m. That’s near East Allen Avenue and Interstate 35W.

The 68-year-old man got into an argument with his granddaughter at another location, Officer Buddy Calzada said. Both of them returned to the East Richmond home, then the man fired five times. The woman was shot once in either her side or back, her aunt, Shirley Jackson, told the Star-Telegram.

The 25-year-old is a mother of three and was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

“They were fighting over bills,” Jackson said. “He just got laid off from Walmart. ... I just don’t know.”

Police hung crime scene tape to the white fence in front of the home, blocking people from it’s entryway. The front storm door was shattered.

As a Star-Telegram reporter talked to witnesses, an officer in an SUV sped off. Minutes later, family members said the grandfather’s truck was found.

Calzada confirmed just after 2 p.m. that the man was arrested.
