Italy High shooting victim gets to come home
A 15-year-old girl who was shot by another student at a school in the Ellis County town of Italy on Jan. 23 has been released from a hospital and has returned home.
The Italy school district posted the news to its Facebook page around 1 p.m. Monday.
In the post, the district wrote that the family is staying at an undisclosed location and is asking not have any visitors unless approved by the girl's parents.
"They have asked for the community to continue praying for her, the school and the community," the post reads. "The family is being very strong for the community. They have expressed that we all need to come together to heal."
After the Jan. 23 shooting, Ellis County sheriff's deputies took a 16-year-old male student into custody as a suspect. They said he left the school immediately after firing shots in the cafeteria, including at a second student, whom he missed. He has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault. Ellis County prosecutors are awaiting more information before deciding whether he will be tried as an adults, The Associated Press reported.
