If it’s Labor Day weekend it means there’s some serious blues to be heard in Bedford.

The annual Blues & BBQ Festival is Friday through Sunday across from the Bedford City Hall complex, 1951 L. Don Dodson Drive, and features live entertainment on Saturday and Sunday, including Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue (9:15 p.m. Saturday) and Dr. John (9:15 p.m. Sunday).

Advance tickets range in price from $7 for general admission to $210 for a tent party table and can be purchased online.

The festival also features a barbecue cook-off with pros and amateurs showing off their skills. Amateurs will participate Friday in the Foreman’s Backyard BBQ competition. The pros show up on Saturday and Sunday for a Kansas City Barbecue Society competition. Bedford’s cook-offs have been featured on reality television shows such as BBQ Pitmasters.

Catfish being stocked again at Chisholm Park pond

With a holiday weekend looming, is there better way to spend a couple of hours that dropping a fishing line in the Chisholm Park pond?

Texas Parks and Wildlife Department workers will stock the pond with channel catfish on Friday and they are available to caught as soon as they are in the water.

The best baits to use are nightcrawlers, chicken livers, shrimp, stinkbait or cut-up hot dogs.

Kids under 17 years old can fish for free and adults need a state fishing license. There is a two-pole limit per angler.

There is no minimum length limit, but there is a 5-fish per day bag limit.

The park is located at 2200 Norwood Drive in Hurst.
