The Colleyville Heritage football team qualified for a playoff spot in 2015 in one of the state’s stronger 6A districts, and Ke’Von Ahmad is a big part of the reason why.

The Panthers wideout finished the season with 1,390 yards receiving and 18 receiving touchdowns, and coach Joe Willis said Ahmad brings a lot to the table.

“He is a playmaker that has great talk, energy, and a lead-by-example mentality,” Willis said.

Just a sophomore in 2015, Ahmad was an all-state selection and chosen as Newcomer of the Year in District 7-6A and should take on an even bigger role on this year’s squad, if that is possible.

“It’s hard to envision a bigger role production-wise after leading the state in receiving as a sophomore,” Willis said. “However, he will take on a much bigger leadership role this year.”

Ahmad said he was pleased with the season his team had last year and said the thing that most impressed him was the way he and his team adjusted to a new system.

“This past season was actually pretty good considering the fact we got a new coach that spring,” Ahmad said. “I performed pretty well and the team did an amazing job on picking things up quick and adjusting to the new coaching.”

Ahmad, who is also on the basketball team at Colleyville Heritage, said he has some plans this off season to get even better for the 2016 campaign, and echoed the sentiments of Willis.

“This summer, I plan to work on speed and getting stronger, but also becoming a better leader and building team chemistry,” Ahmad said.

In order to repeat or even improve upon the success Colleyville Heritage enjoyed in 2015, Ahmad said it will take a couple of things.

“It will take hard work and dedication,” Ahmad said. “We also have to follow the plan that coach Willis has for us, but mostly playing as a team for that one main goal and that is Dec. 17 — the state championship.”
