Grapevine, others to waive animal adoption fees for Clear the Shelters on July 23
For the third year, North Texas shelters — along with NBC 5 and Telemundo 39 — are planning a huge adoption event.
This year’s nationwide Clear the Shelters Day is July 23, with the Grapevine Animal Shelter and Adoption Center event from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 500 Shady Brook Drive.
“Pets are always waiting to be adopted into good, loving homes but the goal is to place every pet and clear our shelter during this one-day event,” said Kristina Valentine, Grapevine Animal Shelter supervisor.
More than 60 North Texas animal shelters are coming together and waiving adoption fees for that one day only.
Last year, North Texans helped Clear the Shelters, finding more than 2,900 pets new homes. From the beginning of the promotion of Clear the Shelters, more than 3,100 animals were adopted, bringing the grand total to more than 6,000 pets placed in new homes in the North Texas area.
And in 2015 for the first time, groups nationwide participated in the Clear the Shelters adoption event. Nearly 20,000 pets found their forever homes in 2015, when some 400 animal shelters across the country partnered with NBC-owned television stations and the Telemundo Station Group.
The annual shelter campaign began in 2014 at the Dallas-Fort Worth level, with the name Empty the Shelters.
Valentine said last year’s event, held in August, was outstanding.
“Last year, Grapevine took part in the Clear the Shelters event and placed all but one pet in that one day,” she said. “That single pet was adopted the following business day. Many pets had been adopted prior to the event due to the increased awareness from campaign efforts.”
