WATAUGA

Police investigating a reported hit-and-run in Watauga Monday night arrested a suspect on a more serious charge.

Officers responded to a hit-and-run call in the 6100 block of Melody Lane, a residential area, and found a more complicated crime scene, Watauga police Sgt. Jason Babcock said Tuesday.

Just before the hit and run, the suspect assaulted someone with a weapon. Babcock called the assault a “cutting.”

“They’re separate incidents but very close together,” Babcock said.

The person who was cut was hospitalized. Babcock did not know the person’s condition Tuesday afternoon.

The name of the person arrested was not released Tuesday. He faces a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon causing serious bodily injury, Babcock said.

It was not clear on Tuesday if anyone was injured in the hit and run. Police are continuing to investigate, Babcok said.
