A Denton man who tried to cross a highway was killed early Saturday after he was hit by a vehicle on Loop 288, police said.

The victim was identified as Dontraell Bell, 34, who was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s website Sunday.

Bell died from blunt-force injuires at 1:51 a.m. Saturday, according to officials at the medical examiner’s office.

The incident was in the 1100 block of South Loop 288.

Police received the call about 1:42 a.m.

The vehicle was northbound when the pedestrian attempted to cross the highway, officer Orlando Hinojosa said Sunday in an email.

The driver and passengers were not injured, police said Sunday.

Impaired or distracted driving were not factors, Hinojosa said.

The crash remains under investigation.
