Carroll’s successful year bodes well for Lone Star Cup

The Carroll athletics program just wrapped up another successful season that saw numerous postseason appearances and a few state championships.

It is no small wonder that Carroll is fourth in the Lone Star Cup standings among 6A schools, and with only baseball remaining, it appears it will be another top five finish.

The football team got things started with a playoff berth and bi-district round victory over Cedar Hill to reach area, while the volleyball team won a district championship and defeated DeSoto and Allen in the playoffs to reach the regional quarterfinals.

The Carroll boys and girls cross country teams finished second at state this past school year.

The Carrolll boys basketball team finished second in district this season to make the playoffs, and the girls finished fourth to qualify.

Carroll’s Jack LeVant emerged victorious in the boys 50 Freestyle event with a time of 20.23 at the state meet, and he also brought home gold in the boys 100 Butterfly with a time of 48.20.

Alex Zettle won a state championship in the boys 200 Freestyle event with a time of 1:37.17 and 500 Free with a time of 4:22.64, teammate Austin Whalen finished fourth in the same event with a time of 1:39.18.

The boys 400 free relay of Zettle, LeVant, Whalen and Carman won a state championship with a time of 2:59.695.

The girls 200 Medley Relay team of Nasha Luevit, Olivia Coffey, Anya Ittiruck and Rachel Luevit finished sixth with a time of 1:47.85.

The boys 200 Medley Relay team of Alex Moraru, Evan Kolde, Gus Karau and Landon Armstrong finished fifth with a time of 1:34.03.

Colter Carman finished third in the boys 500 free with a time of 4:26.28 and fifth in the boys 200 IM with a time of 1:50.75, while Natalie Whalen finished fifth in the girls 100 Butterfly with a time of 55.14 and fourth in the 500 free with a time of 4:56.27.

The Carroll boys 200 Free Relay team of LeVant Zettle, Austin Whalen and Landon Jensen took the Silver medal with a time of 1:23.71.

Evan Kolde finished sixth in the boys 100 Breaststroke with a time of 57.45.

The Carroll girls 400 Freestyle Relay team of Whalen Amelia Rusli, Chantal Meyer and Luevit finished sixth with a time of 3:32.96.

The Carroll boys won their sixth consecutive state championship in the sport of swimming.

Jack Duval finished second in state in wrestling in the 160 pound weight class.

The Dragons boys soccer team finished third in district and defeated Midlothian in the bi-district round of the playoffs to advance to area, and the Carroll girls won a district championship in soccer and defeated South Grand Prairie in the bi-district round to reach area.

The softball team finished second in District 7-6A and won their bi-district game against South Grand Prairie to advance to the area round, and the baseball team defeated Mansfield in the opening round off the playoffs to reach area.

Colin Kober (71-72) won a silver medal at the state golf meet on the boys side, and Arman Dave won a state championship in boys singles at the state tennis meet.

Matt Landers and Alex Reusche finished second at state in boys doubles.

Reed Brown (8:50.43) won a state championship and broke a 29-year-old time record in the process at the state track and field meet, and finished second in the 1,600 meters with a time of 4:04.82.
