Colleyville fire open house sparks fun, imagination, learning
Two-year-old Braden Wroble wants to be a firefighter — he dressed as one for Halloween and drives his little fire truck around his Keller home every day putting out imaginary fires.
So his parents were thrilled to take him to the Colleyville Fire Department open house on Saturday.
Every year, the fire department opens its doors to provide a behind-the-scenes look at fire operations and peek into the work lives of Colleyville firefighters.
Parents Chris and Carolyn Wroble took their son and his 6-month-old sister Bailey to the open house held at the Central Fire Station on Colleyville Boulevard. Bailey spent the day in her stroller but her big brother was a whirlwind the entire time.
“Braden loves firefighters,” said Chris, a software consultant. “Braden is so into it. He talks about it, he thinks about it and he acts like a firefighter.”
The family visits fire station open houses whenever possible and Chris called Colleyville’s “the best one ever.”
“They had a couple of different work stations where kids could put fires out,” the father of two said. “He also got to hold a hose while they turned it on.”
More than once, Braden was helped into fire trucks that were on display, including ones that had their ladders extended “all the way up,” said Carolyn, an office manager.
Asked if he supported his son’s dream of being a firefighter, Chris said with a laugh, “Sure. He’s 2.”
