Colleyville police offer safety tips after surge in residential shed burglaries
Over the past several weeks, Colleyville has experienced an increase in residential shed burglaries, according to city officials.
Each burglary has been similar in nature, with landscaping equipment such as lawn mowers and tools being taken from unlocked sheds.
The police department has asked citizens to be alert to any activity in their neighborhoods and call 911 if they hear or see anything suspicious.
Other Tips:
1. Lock your shed and garage doors
2. Activate home alarm and video surveillance systems
3. Point motion-activated outdoor lighting to cover shed or garage area
4. Lock gates leading into backyard
5. Maintain photos and serial numbers of all valuables
6. Call 911 immediately if you find a burglar or suspicious person
7. Do not wait to report the burglary and do not clean up the burglary before police arrive
8. Be your “brother’s keeper.” Watch out for each other. Be aware of your surroundings, suspicious people and vehicles. If something or someone looks out of place, immediately call 911 or NETCOM Dispatch at 817-503-1251.
