Diamonds, and memories, are forever at 007 Grapevine dance
It was a night of delicious thrills — shaken, not stirred — at the city’s Mother Son Bonding: Diamonds Are Forever experience on Friday night.
The parks and recreation team hosted their annual mother/son event where participants experienced the heroic world of a James Bond adventure.
The event held at the Compass Center was filled with daring missions to thwart villainous plots, fast cars and explosive action where mother and son saved the day.
Cassey Amburn and her 8-year-old son Warren had fun getting their picture taken as they stood back to back posed in a 007 stance.
Warren, a second-grader at Bedford Heights Elementary, and mom both said their favorite part was the “escape room” where mothers and sons solved riddles and puzzles.
“We had to work together,” said Amburn, an administrative coordinator for the Bedford Fire Department.
Among those at the event was 9-year-old Jacob Simpson, who dreams of being a firefighter or a presidential Secret Service agent or “someone who helps people.”
So the evening was right up his alley.
Although the Grapevine youth said he “liked it all,” laser tag and his first limousine ride were his favorites.
Mom Karen said he looked the part, wearing his favorite black suit jacket and pants he enjoys wearing to church — adding “shades” for that James Bond effect.
Jacob, a third-grader at O.C. Taylor Elementary School in Colleyville, enjoyed his second year at the city event.
“He’s into role playing, so he had a great time,” his mother said.
Christine Armenta and her son Ethan got into the spirit of the evening, with the 8-year-old dressing in black shirt, pants and tie and sporting sunglasses.
Armenta said her son, a second-grader at Colleyville Heritage Elementary School, said her son’s favorite events were the limousine rides and laser tag.
She enjoyed dancing with her son at their first mother-son event.
“It was really special,” said Armenta, who plans to also bring her and husband Eddie’s 5-year-old son Levi to next year’s event.
“We’re going to make it a yearly tradition to go,” she said.
