In partnership with the city, Keep Grapevine Beautiful hosted EPIC Earth Day on Saturday.

Held at the Botanical Gardens at Heritage Park, visitors found fun that included making a spaghetti garden — complete with oregano, basil and tomato plants — and talking to a beekeeper who offered information on how to keep and maintain a beehive at home.

Local vendors provided earth-friendly goods and services with the aim of helping visitors become better stewards of natural resources.

“Grapevine is ahead of the curve when it comes to being environmentally friendly and green,” said Lisa Adams Grove, Botanical Gardens horticulturist. “They are very progressive.”

The GRACE donation truck was on site to receive gently used clothing. GRACE (Grapevine Relief and Community Exchange) is a faith-based, nonprofit relief agency, providing food, clothing and other emergency assistance to people in need in northeast Tarrant County with the goal of encouraging self-sufficiency.

The Grapevine Garden Club also offered its Spring Plant Sale.

EPIC Earth Day stands for:

▪ Engage our community to reduce water and energy usage

▪ Preserve and reclaim natural space

▪ Influence purchasing choices based on environmental impact

▪ Cultivate a sustainable earth and air quality

“This year’s EPIC Earth Day featured a variety of vendors and demonstrations that gave us all food for thought,” said Lori Clark, board president of Keep Grapevine Beautiful. “How will we better use natural resources and contribute to the overall welfare of our environment? EPIC Earth Day gave us a place to start; with fun activities and educational sessions that we can apply right here in Grapevine.”

Keep Grapevine Beautiful is organized to preserve and enhance the local natural environment by strengthening citizen’s levels of commitment through educational programs and engaging volunteer-based projects.
