Carroll baseball won’t take Haltom lightly this week
The Carroll baseball team remains hot heading into the second-to-last week of the regular season, riding a six-game winning streak going into Tuesday night.
The Dragons were set to play Haltom at 7 p.m. on Friday in Southlake, and coach Larry Hughes said that he is not taking the Buffalos lightly.
“I know they are down at the bottom of the district, but they have played some good games and close games,” Hughes said. “They’ve always had pretty good baseball talent in tough districts, and if you take them lightly and don’t show up to play, you can be beaten by them. I am well aware of that and I am going to make our team aware of that also.”
Carroll defeated Colleyville Heritage by a score of 3-2 on Friday night in a game that Hughes said his team looked pretty similar to how it has most of the district season this past week.
“It’s kind of been the same way that we’ve been winning,” Hughes said. “We had two well-pitched games from Matthew Canterino, who threw six shutout innings on Tuesday and had some nice hits. The game on Friday was a real close game.
“We were actually down 1-0 going into the fifth, and with two outs, we got back to back home runs from our eight- and nine-hole hitters, Kole Ramage and Soren Krug. We went up 2-1, and then Hudsen Sanchez hit an RBI single the next inning ... and Ramage pitched real well.”
Riding a six-game win streak heading into Tuesday night’s game with Haltom, Hughes said that he is feeling pretty optimistic about Carroll’s chances in the postseason.
“We’ve played really good baseball in district,” Hughes said. “We lost the first two games to a really tough Coppell team, both by one run, and then we’ve won the last six, so we’re really playing good, solid baseball. We have not been consistent with our hitting every time, but we’ve played well.”
