Keller woman faces March 8 court date on swindling charges
Nancy Carroll, former owner of a Southlake-based title company, is set to appear in court in Texas on March 8, district attorney’s office spokeswoman Samantha Jordan said.
“My understanding is that she is not fighting extradition,” Jordan wrote in an email.
Carroll was arrested near Chicago on Feb. 11 after leaving her Keller home when a Texas court ordered her company into receivership, according to a news release from the Tarrant County district attorney’s office. She was jailed in Illinois after authorities found her staying in a Chicago suburb.
Carroll is accused of swindling millions from customers of her company, Millennium Title, 771 E. Southlake Blvd. An exact amount has not been released.
She will face charges of theft and misapplication of fiduciary property upon extradition from Illinois, according to the release.
Carroll is being held at the Lake County Jail in Illinois, on the outskirts of Chicago.
As of Jan. 25, the company has been under control of a court-appointed receiver tasked with liquidating the company, according to court documents filed Feb. 5.
In a separate lawsuit filed against Carroll on Jan. 29, a plaintiff is seeking almost $797,000 in damages. The lawsuit alleges that Carroll maintained an escrow account for real estate closing purposes but took proceeds for her personal use.
