Carroll boys swimmers snag a six-peat

For the sixth straight season, the Carroll boys swimming and diving team has won a state championship, and this time, it was not even close.

The Carroll boys beat out second place Austin Westlake by more than 100 points, and coach Kevin Murphy said he could not be more pleased with how his boys team performed.

“It was a little bit of a bittersweet day,” Murphy said. “We had a guy that was called for flinching in the 100 fly, but finished fourth, so he was disqualified. We had another boy who struggled in his swim that he had hoped to do real well in. But, as a team, they did a great job, finishing off with an outstanding 400 free relay. The national public school record is 2:59 flat, they went 2:59.60. So it is surely one of the two or three best in the country this year.”

Carroll’s Jack LeVant emerged victorious in the boys 50 Freestyle event with a time of 20.23, beating out Trophy Club Nelson’s Adam Koster, who was right on his heels with a time of 20.44.

LeVant also brought home gold in the boys 100 Butterfly with a time of 48.20.

Carroll’s Alex Zettle won a state championship in the boys 200 Freestyle event with a time of 1:37.17 and 500 Free with a time of 4:22.64, while teammate Austin Whalen finished fourth in the same event with a time of 1:39.18.

The boys 400 free relay of Zettle, LeVant, Whalen and Carman won a state championship with a time of 2:59.695.

Nate Hernandez also brought home a state championship in diving.

The boys 200 Medley Relay team of Alex Moraru, Evan Kolde, Gus Karau and Landon Armstrong finished fifth with a time of 1:34.03.

The Carroll boys 200 Free Relay team of LeVant Zettle, Austin Whalen and Landon Jensen took the silver medal with a time of 1:23.71 and Evan Kolde finished sixth in the boys 100 Breaststroke with a time of 57.45.

Colter Carman finished third in the boys 500 free with a time of 4:26.28 and fifth in the boys 200 IM with a time of 1:50.75, an on the girls side, Natalie Whalen finished fifth in the girls 100 Butterfly with a time of 55.14 and fourth in the 500 free with a time of 4:56.27.

The girls 200 Medley Relay team of Nasha Luevit, Olivia Coffey, Anya Ittiruck and Rachel Luevit finished sixth with a time of 1:47.85.

The Carroll girls 400 Freestyle Relay team of Whalen, Amelia Rusli, Chantal Meyer and Luevit finished sixth with a time of 3:32.96.

“We had an outstanding day on Friday,” Murphy said. “Any rough spots we had on Friday were balanced out by our showing on Friday.”

The Carroll girls finished seventh at state.

Grapevine also had a great showing at the state meet, finishing fourth overall on the boys side, just one point out of third place.

David Hallaron finished second in the boys 200 IM with a time of 1:54.58 and third in the boys 100 Backstroke with a time of 51.77.

Teammate Parker Schultz was third in the boys 100 Butterfly with a time of 50.99, and Ben Kalmbach was fourth in the 500 free with a time of 4:41.08.

The Grapevine boys 200 Medley Relay team of Nicholas Tsigas, Hallaron, Schultz and Christian Hambrock finished sixth with a time of 1:39.28.

Shultz was also sixth in the 200 Free with a time of 50.91.
