The operator of a home daycare where a toddler died earlier this month was arrested Wednesday after an investigation determined she had no license to run the business.

Druscilla Bowie, 60, of Lewisville surrendered to police Wednesday afternoon.

Bowie is expected to be charged with operating a child care facility without a license, a Class B misdemeanor.

Ten-month-old Kayden Bolden was pronounced dead on Feb. 5 after his mother picked him up from Bowie’s home daycare in the 1600 block of Niagara Boulevard. The investigation into the toddler’s death is ongoing, Capt. Dan Rocelle said in a news release Thursday.

Latoya King told WFAA-TV earlier this month that she dropped off her child at the home daycare center in Lewisville around 10:30 a.m. on Feb. 5. When she returned to pick up him just before 5 p.m., Kayden was limp and cold.

"As soon as she handed him to me, he was just lifeless," King told WFAA.

Kayden was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

There was no evidence of foul play and the home daycare staff was cooperating with an investigation, police said. There were no signs of trauma on Kayden’s body after his stay at the home daycare, police said.

Authorities obtained a warrant this week for Bowie’s arrest and she surrendered on Wednesday. She was booked into the Denton County Jail early Thursday.

Bowie remained in Denton County Jail in Denton in lieu of $30,000 bail.
