Inmate escapes from Lewisville police at hospital
Police continued searching Monday for an inmate who escaped from a hospital during the weekend while still wearing police handcuffs.
An official identified the suspect as Thomas Isaac Cano, 27, of Denton County.
Cano walked out of the emergency room at Medical Center of Lewisville on Sunday afternoon as he was being treated, police said Monday.
“Cano was being treated at the hospital for an unrelated medical concern,” said Lt. Scott W. Haynes in a Monday email.
The escape occurred about 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the hospital in the 500 block of W. Main Street.
Cano walked out of the hospital undetected, police said. Officers canvassed the area, but did not find him.
Police did not release any other information about Cano’s escape.
According to police reports, Cano had been in the Lewisville Jail on charges of driving while intoxicated, evading arrest or detention with a vehicle, driving while license invalid and failure to identify-fugitive.
Cano was also being held on warrants from Lake Dallas and Denton police, and Love County, Oklahoma, police said.
The inmate was wearing jeans, a gray T-shirt and the handcuffs. Cano is about 5 feet 6 inches and weighs about 145 pounds.
Police do not consider him dangerous, but authorities encouraged residents not to approach him. Residents are asked to contact local police departments if they see suspicious activity or if there are sightings.
