Southlake, Grapevine-Heritage hockey teams keep up dominant play
The Carroll Varsity Silver hockey team cruised on Thursday night to a 9-3 victory over Highland Park in a game that the Dragons outshot the Scots by a margin of 34-16.
The Dragons improved to 10-3 on the season with two overtime losses and will square off with Flower Mound Marcus at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Euless StarCenter Green Arena.
Michael Walsh got things going for Carroll at the 9:10 mark of the first period on assists from Peter Adams and Alexander Carbone to give Carroll the lead, and Carbone made it 2-0 just 33 seconds later on assists from William Wood and Walsh.
Highland Park cut the deficit to one on the next goal of the game, but James Gibson added a third goal on an assist from Wood, and Carroll led 3-1 at the end of the first period.
Walsh scored his second goal of the night 30 seconds into the second period on assists from Cole Shannon and Wood, but Highland Park answered with a goal to cut the deficit to two.
David Driggs then scored on assists from Lucas Peddicord and Louie Guarino, and the game was 5-3 heading into the third period.
Carbone scored his second goal of the night at the start of the third period on an assist from Jacob Ashlock, before Highland Park scored its final goal of the night.
Driggs scored again on assists from Peddicord and Guarino, Walsh completed the hat trick on assists from Wood and Carbone, and Jacob Jones scored on assists from Wood and Todd Luther.
The Grapevine/Colleyville Heritage Varsity Silver hockey team shut out Denton County on Thursday night to move to 10-3 on the season and keep pace with Carroll in the district standings.
Austin Bell scored on an unassisted goal in the first period to make it 1-0 Grapevine/Colleyville Heritage heading into the second.
Landon Huber scored on an assist from Hunter Berry to make it 2-0 at the end of two, and Cole Potter made it 3-0 in the third to put the game out of reach, also on an assist from Berry.
Brock Stevens stopped 12 out of 12 shots on goal in the contest for Grapevine/Colleyville Heritage.
The Varsity Silver team will play top ranked Keller at 9:15 p.m. on Thursday at the Euless Green Arena.
