Police arrested Vernon McFatridge, 78, on suspicion of driving while intoxicated involving serious bodily injury after a 9-year-old boy was struck by his pickup Monday night.

McFatridge, of Haltom City, remained in the North Richland Hills Jail on Tuesday with bail set at $25,000.

Emergency crews responded about 7 p.m. Monday to a call from the 5600 block of Huddleston Street in Haltom City.

The boy, who was riding a bicycle, was flown to Cook Children’s Medical Center in critical condition. He was removed from intensive care and upgraded to stable condition Tuesday, Haltom City Detective Ray Beshirs said.

He was convicted of possessing a forged check in 2006, his only prior conviction in Tarrant County.
