Students share inspiring ideas at TEDxYouth@Carroll
Young people gave informative and inspiring messages at the fourth annual “TEDxYouth@Carroll” Thursday at Carroll Senior High School.
Fourteen students gave dynamic talks on a wide variety of subjects, from theories on extra-terrestrial life and ways to reduce stress to what motivates kids to learn and how non-coding RNA could be used to treat brain cancer. Guest speaker Jonathan Swiatocha spoke about the challenges of overcoming traumatic brain injury.
Karen Otto, Carroll High School Pre-AP English teacher and faculty sponsor, said one of her students started the TEDxYouth event. Marshall Richardson, a CSHS senior, was this year’s student leader and master of ceremonies. Otto said dozens of students auditioned to speak at the event.
TED is a non-profit group that began holding a conference in 1984 to promote “ideas worth spreading.” TEDx is a community-based effort to stimulate discussion in TED-like experiences at the local level.
