Carroll boys basketball snares big win in district
The Carroll boys basketball team picked up a huge win on Friday night against Richland, and coach Eric McDade said he really believes the team’s tough non-district schedule is starting to pay off.
The Dragons played Euless Trinity on Tuesday night after the press deadline and will host Colleyville Heritage at 8 p.m. on Friday.
“They will be well prepared, and they are a scrappy team,” McDade said. “We played them three times last year and lost in the play in game against them. So I know that they will be well prepared, and I am sure that it will come down to a possession here or there, so we will really have to take care of the ball and make good shots.”
Caroll defeated Richland by a score of 68-61 on Friday night, and McDade said he was really impressed with the effort his team gave all the way around.
“I felt like we really played one of our most complete games this year,” McDade said. “I feel like we have been knocking on the door against some pretty stiff competition. But I think the level of competition and the strength of schedule we faced in the non-district really helped us as we started district off.
“We came up one short against Coppell, because we couldn’t finish it out, but we did finish it out against a very good Richland team.”
Carroll lost its district opener to Coppell by a score of 43-42 last Tuesday night.
McDade had expressed concern about Richland guard C.J. Roberts prior to the game, and while Roberts did score 27 points, the Dragons’ Joey McCormick answered with 23 points and Carroll did a good job of spreading the ball around offensively.
“I think our guys just really shared the ball well,” McDade said. “Cooper Osburn had seven assists and Tyson Smiter I think had five assists. Our guard play did a really good in the back court about getting the ball inside to the guys we wanted to.
“We knew Richland shot well, so we wanted to combat that by going inside and really establish a good inside presence.”
