Bomb threats sent to Denton churches
Bomb threats for Christmas Eve services have been sent to two Denton churches in as many days, police said Tuesday.
A threatening letter was sent to Denton Bible Church on Monday, and another arrived at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, according to police.
“The letters have warned not to have the services,” Denton police spokesman Shane Kizer said Tuesday. “It says there would be bombings at the Christmas Eve services.”
Police believe the letters have come from the same suspect or suspects.
Extra security and additional officers will be at Denton Bible Church, 2300 E. University Drive, for the Thursday service, Denton police said. Church officials told police that they plan to have the 6 p.m. service Thursday.
“The envelope to St. Andrew was handwritten,” Kizer said. He declined to provide any other details.
Kizer said Tuesday that St. Andrew, 300 W. Oak St., will have Christmas Eve services. The church website indicates services will be at 5 and 7 p.m. Thursday.
Additional police also will be at that church, Kizer said.
The investigation continued Tuesday, and no one had been arrested.
