Colleyville SWAT team responds to suicide threat

A man who barricaded himself in his Colleyville home with a gun for three hours Sunday was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth without injury, authorities said.

The man’s family left the house in the Shalimar Court cul-de-sac off John McCain Road after the man threatened to kill himself, city spokeswoman Mona Gandy said. A family member then called police at 11:39 a.m. and told them there was a gun in the house, she said.

The Colleyville SWAT team was called in as a precautionary measure, she said. The SWAT team threw a phone in the house to get the man to talk, Gandy said, and then he came out without incident.

She said no one was in the house with the man as police waited about three hours for him to come out.

She said none of the nearby neighbors were evacuated, but residents may have seen people gathered to watch after they saw police. —Monica S. Nagy
