Mistrial declared in Euless intoxication manslaughter case

A mistrial was declared Tuesday in an intoxication manslaughter case in which a former trauma nurse was accused of killing a private in the Texas Army National Guard.

Brandon Bennett, 20, of Hurst, was on his way to Lewisville for drills on March 9 last year when the wreck occurred. Beth Branum, 31, of Granbury, was charged with intoxication manslaughter.

The accident took place five minutes from Bennett’s home in the 2300 block of West Pipeline Road in Euless shortly after 5 a.m.

A juror told visiting state District Judge David Cleveland that she knew Bennett and his family from her time as a volunteer at a school he attended, said Richard Alpert, Tarrant County prosecutor.

Branum’s trial is expected to be rescheduled for sometime early next year, Alpert said.
