The long-awaited community event facility and recreation center is about to open.
The first phase of The Marq Southlake is about done, and the city is hosting a grand opening for the public on Saturday. Vicky Schiber, communication and marketing manager for the city of Southlake, said the grand opening will be like an open house, with staff giving tours and offering additional information.
Phase one of The Marq includes a ballroom, meeting rooms, a lounge, a senior activity center and an outdoor amphitheater.
“We think we’ll have a significant economic impact on the community,” Schiber said. “We’re providing meeting spaces for corporations, civic groups and others here in Southlake instead of having to go somewhere else.”
Schiber said the city has heard “pretty positive things” from residents as they anticipate the opening of The Marq.
“They’re excited and anxious to see it, and we’re anxious to show it to them,” Schiber said.
With the first part done, the city is about midway through its construction on the project. The $15 million construction cost for the first phase was paid for by the city with available cash.
Phase two construction will cost an estimated $32 million and will include a recreation center, is set to break ground in August and be completed in early 2018, Schiber said.
The free grand opening open house is scheduled from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Saturday at The Marq, located in the southwest corner of Bicentennial Park.
