A record number of GCISD students in the Class of 2016 are National Merit Semifinalists.

There are ten from Colleyville Heritage High School: Holly Ahaus,Yuyuan Ding, Thomas Durkin, Jing Gao, Colby Kennedy, Kristen Nguyen, Samuel Pollack, Kathryn Schmidt, Vartika Varshney and Michael Wright.

Grapevine High School also has ten Semifinalists: Emily Chwa, Hannah Daniel, Kyle Flamm, Grant Hill, Grayson Jackson, Lorene O'Quinn, Namita Saraf, Skyler Simon, Miha Valencic and Tine Valencic.

About 1.5 million juniors in more than 22,000 high schools participated in the 2016 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2014 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®), which served as an initial screen of program entrants.

The nationwide pool of Semifinalists represents less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors. About half of the Semifinalists will become National Merit Scholars, earning scholarship funds for college.
