Crash kills 3 in North Richland Hills
A pickup slammed into a concrete wall and then went over onto Northeast Loop 820 early Sunday, bursting into flames and killing three people, police said.
One person was found dead outside the vehicle after being ejected and two were located in the burned pickup, police said.
The names of the victims had not been released pending notifications of relatives.
The wreck was reported about 2:30 a.m. in westbound Northeast Loop 820 at Iron Horse Boulevard.
The extended-cab pickup was traveling west on the highway when it exited at Meadow Lakes Drive. The driver failed to stop at the traffic light for an unknown reason, said Investigator Keith Bauman in a Sunday email.
The pickup hit a guardrail and a concrete wall, went over a second concrete wall, landed on the Northeast Loop 820 and burst into flames.
When they arrived, police located one of the victims outside the vehicle. When firefighters extinguished the fire, two more victims were found, Bauman said.
Police closed the westbound lanes of the highway for several hours as authorities investigated.
All the victims died at the scene.
