Grapevine’s Butterfly Flutterby to highlight monarchs
The 18th Annual Butterfly Flutterby set for Oct. 17 will celebrate the migration of the monarch butterfly.
October is when monarch butterflies make their annual migration to Mexico; and Grapevine is right in their flight path.
The annual event provides the opportunity to learn about the insect and its migratory patterns, as well as beneficial plants the monarchs depend on. It also introduces children to nature and the life cycle of monarch butterflies.
The day begins with a butterfly costume parade. The parade route will start at East Wall and Jenkins streets across from City Hall and end at the Grapevine Botanical Gardens at Heritage Park.
Children and pets are invited to wear their favorite butterfly costume for the parade.
Registration for the costume parade starts at 8:45 a.m., with the parade beginning at 10 a.m. Judging will be held for different age categories, pets and groups, with prizes awarded to category winners.
After the parade, see butterfly exhibits and Grapevine-Colleyville school district Kid’s Art Contest and participate in the butterfly arts and crafts, led by the Grapevine Garden Club. Events are from 10 a.m.–2 p.m.
Refreshments are available for purchase.
Live butterfly releases will occur throughout the event at the Grapevine Botanical Gardens.
