Captain Red Beard and other colorful characters dressed in their buccaneer best were on deck Sept. 19 when Legoland Discovery Center was to unveil its pirate-themed mosaic at Legoland Pirate Beach, the attraction’s seasonal outdoor water playground. Hundreds of Lego fanatics helped construct the giant mosaic over the summer. Similar to a paint-by-numbers system, bricks were used to build small Lego tiles that came together to create the artwork for Legoland at Grapevine Mills mall. They used 82,944 Lego bricks in the mosaic. It took 2,400 hours to complete. Mosaic sections were assembled as the project traveled throughout the Metroplex.
