A Fort Worth man was shot in the leg Monday night on Northeast Loop 820 in North Richland Hills during a road rage incident, police said.

A 30-year-old pickup driver drove himself to a hospital Monday night after he was shot by another motorist on Northeast Loop 820, police said Tuesday.

The shooting was reported shortly after 8 p.m. in westbound lanes of the loop near Rufe Snow Drive.

“The victim indicated that the suspect was driving [a car] very close to his bumper, so he tapped his brakes in order to get the suspect to slow down,” investigator Keith Bauman said in a news release. “The suspect attempted to pass the victim, at which time the victim made a hand gesture.”

The car driver fired a gun, and the bullet went through the driver’s side door and into the pickup driver’s calf, Bauman said.

The injury was non-life-threatening, police said.

The car was described as a dark sedan. A yellow Labrador retriever was inside, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call North Richland Hills police at 817-427-7000.
