Skunk in Hurst tests positive for rabies
A rabies alert was issued for Hurst Thursday afternoon after a dead skunk tested positive for the virus.
Hurst Animal Services found the skunk in the 600 block of Tumbleweed Drive Monday. The carcass was tested positive at the Texas Department of State Health Services laboratory in Austin.
Although vaccination of all cats and dogs is required by law, Hurst police urge locals to look out for rabies warnings signs such as lethargy, fever, vomiting, anorexia, full or partial paralysis, seizures, excessive salivation, aggression, difficulty breathing or swallowing and other abnormal behavior. —Monica S.
