Faith quarterback takes part in elite Top Gun all-star camp

Football runs in the blood of the Hogan family at Grapevine Faith Christian Academy, and middle school quarterback Deuce Hogan is no exception.

Son of Lions high school coach, Kris Hogan, Deuce was recently invited to compete in the country’s top prep football all-star camp, Football University (FBU) Top Gun, at Dublin Jerome High School in Dublin, Ohio.

The competition features youngsters considered to be the best at their respective positions in the U.S.

“He did great,” coach Kris Hogan said. “He had a fun camp.”

Deuce Hogan was invited to Top Gun because of his outstanding performance at the FBU Houston camp, where he was ranked the No. 1 player overall.

At Houston, the quarterbacks coach was Sean Salisbury, now an ESPN analyst. Salisbury is said to have praised Deuce’s leadership ability and the fact that he had the highest pass completion percentage in the highly competitive 7-on-7 portion of the camp.

According to a news release, “Top Gun is the culmination of Football University’s 24-camp nationwide camp season gathering the most elite performers from across the United States and allowing them to compete and display their abilities together on one stage.”

Football University has an impressive alumni list that includes some of the top college football recruits and players in the nation.

Headlining the Top Gun Showcase coaching staff are quarterbacks coach Jeff Rutledge, former quarterback coach of the Arizona Cardinals, running back coach Robert Edwards, offensive line coach Jim McNally, who is considered by many to be the best offensive line coach in the game, defensive back coach Ray Buchanan, and wide receiver coach Charlie Collins, who is considered one of the finest receiver coaches in the game.

Kris Hogan said that Deuce performed very well at the national event, and put up some great numbers along the way. Deuce's performance won him the Top Gun Leadership Award for the event as well.

Football University Top Gun is designed to give elite high school and middle school athletes top-flight instruction and has trained some of the nation’s top players.

In addition to a list of all-star athletes, Top Gun boasts an elite staff of some of football’s greatest minds who have privately trained and mentored players such as Drew Brees, Matt Ryan, Eli Manning, and Tony Romo.

The event featured more than 800 elite middle school football players from across the country along with roughly 75 coaches with NFL experience.
