The Grapevine-Colleyville school district hired Jason Adams as its new superintendent at Monday’s board meeting.

The district had previously named Adams as the lone finalist for the job on May 22. The search for a new superintendent began in February with the hiring of Walsh Gallegos as the search firm.

Adams has 28-years of experience as an educator and administrator, most recently as the deputy superintendent of Garland ISD. He begins his first day with the district on June 16.

“While I may be your new superintendent, I will always be a teacher at heart regardless of what role I’m in because at the center of this work is really pretty simple,” Adams said. “It’s about creating opportunities, inspiring potential, and ensuring that every student is supported, challenged and well-prepared for life beyond graduation.”

Adams said that he is grateful to join a district with a tradition of excellence.

“Together we have an opportunity to honor that legacy, continue the important work that’s already underway and to ensure that every student who walks through our classroom doors and eventually cross that graduation stage is well-prepared,” Adams said. “Whether they’re going into a college classroom or they’re going into a career that they’re well-prepared and confident to succeed, to lead, to contribute and thrive in this ever-changing landscape that we live in.”

During the search for a new superintendent, the board did a survey and conducted nine different in-person forums with staff, parent and community members giving input into the qualities and experiences they wanted in a new superintendent.

According to the district, more than 720 people participated in the survey and dozens took part in the forums.

The board also thanked outgoing interim superintendent Rick DeMasters, who was named interim superintendent in December 2025.

“He has carried us with incredible grace, humility and wisdom that was just a remarkable happening in that journey,” board president Dalia Begin. “—We are very grateful for all that you have done for GCISD.”

The district has recently gone through a number of changes since the May 2 election where voters elected Matthew White, Lindsey Sheguit and Darrell Brown to the school board, while ousting incumbents A.J. Pontillo, Dianna Sager and Mary Humphrey.

The board officer positions also changed with Dalia Begin being voted in as the new board president. The new board also voted for trustee Matt Foust as vice-president and Darrell Brown as secretary.
