Ross McMullin was sworn in as mayor of Keller Tuesday night at Keller Town Hall during a City Council meeting.

McMullin finished with 57.86% of the vote, Ed Prem had 33.75% and Tag Green had 8.38%.

McMullin, was the mayor pro tem on the council and is an attorney. He ran on public safety, critical infrastructure and protecting taxpayer dollars with what he says is a policy driven approach to governance. McMullin was endorsed by Keller firefighters.

“There’s very few other communities like it [Keller]” McMullin said. “And for that reason it’s an honor of a lifetime to serve as your mayor and I want you to know that it means a lot to me that you’re here tonight.”

In a statement shared by the city earlier in the week McMullin said he is ready for what comes next.

“Taking Keller to the next level is an exciting challenge — one that will require a mayor who is prepared, focused on policy and committed to delivering results,” McMullin said in the statement. “From streets and public safety to youth sports and our trail system, our community should expect excellence in every area of city government.”

Mayor Armin Mizani did not seek reelection and instead is running as a Republican for the House District 98 seat, following Rep. Giovanni Capriglione’s decision not to seek reelection.

“Together, we have built a stronger, safer and more vibrant Keller,” Mizani said in a statement. “Through moments of celebration and moments of challenge, our community has continually demonstrated resilience, compassion and unity. We navigated the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic, supporting local businesses, families and first responders during unprecedented times. We also weathered the historic Winter Storm Uri of 2021, when neighbors stepped up for one another and our city staff worked around the clock to keep Keller safe and moving forward.”

Mizani delivered a tearful speech at the meeting and spoke about his time-serving on the board and what it meant to him and his family.

“I’ve appreciated each and every one’s perspective,” Mizani told the council members at the meeting. “There have been times where we’ve always either agreed or disagreed, but it’s always been a respectful dialog, and that’s something I can appreciate, not just from this group but the prior council members and prior mayors that I’ve had the privilege of serving underneath.”

Councilman Chris Whatley was also sworn into office again after winning his seat again and Charles Randklev, was sworn in on May 12 after winning Keller City Council Place 6 in the May 2 elections.

“I pledge to you, I will do what’ve always done,” Whatley said. “ That seat isn’t mine, it belongs to you, and you’re the ones who put me there, you’re the people I listen to. I’ve always been the voice of the people.”
