New Chick-fil-A drive-thru, parking coming to Grapevine location
Grapevine residents can look forward to a new drive-thru at the Chick-fil-A located at 1235 William D. Tate Ave.
On March 17, the city council and zoning and planning commission approved a permit request to modify the existing Chick-fil-A lot to improve the drive-thru traffic.
The lot will be combined with a vacant property next door which previously housed an older Chick-fil-A that will now be demolished for this project.
The fast food company has been making improvements to its older restaurants and all the new ones have the upgraded drive-thru areas.
The improvements include creating a new one-way traffic flow into and out of the drive-thru to reduce stacking at William D. Tate Avenue. Stacking is the accumulation of cars at parking lots, adjacent businesses, and traffic lights.
Along with the traffic flow change, the business will be adding signage and cones to keep customers and staff safe.
“Ever since the pandemic, Chick-fil-A has emphasized and done a lot more work with their drive-thru, specifically making them safer and more efficient,” said Mary Sullivan, civil engineer with Little Diversified Architectural Consulting, at the meeting.
Jarvis Boyd, the owner and operator of the restaurant, said along with making it safer the plan helps the drive-thru flow better.
“That’s a pretty significant safety investment, because that’s a building you could have either released or sold or whatever,” council member Duff O’Dell told Boyd at the meeting. “So I appreciate you taking the lead on that from a safety perspective, and it does get pretty crowded and contentious back there so it sounds like a good plan.”
The new plan would also include a large parking lot that would have up to 90 spots and more green space. An expected date of start or completion hasn’t been announced yet.
