Four Colleyville businesses receive grants to boost curb appeal
Four businesses that are new or expanding in Colleyville have gotten a little help from the city to cover their costs.
The City Council recently awarded grants to help the local companies with renovations and exterior improvements . The grant is a reimbursable incentive that helps local businesses with signage, landscaping, paint, lighting and other facade work.
The money comes from the Colleyville BEST program, through the city’s Economic Development office.
Here’s a look at what the four businesses have planned.
Thrift Giant
Thrift Giant, an Irving-based chain of resale stores, has purchased a building at 3901 Colleyville Blvd., at the corner of Texas 26 and Cheek-Sparger Road, that used to house a 99 Cent Only Store.
Thrift Giant received a $100,000 grant from the city for improvements. According to Mark Wood, assistant city manager, the retailer plans to invest $1.5 million on the property.
“We’re very thrilled that they’ve done that, they are encouraged about it, and they’re looking to invest in our city,” Wood told the council at a Feb. 3 meeting. “So, we think these grants will come alongside these businesses, provide some sort of seed money for them as they get started and help us in our economic development efforts.”
Mayor Bobby Lindamood Jr. said Thrift Giant will paint, redo the exterior and update landscaping in the parking lot. The city will also be doing some landscaping on the edge of the street to beautify the area around the store.
Modern Grace & Co.
Modern Grace, a home interior design firm in business since 2015, is opening a flagship store called Modern Grace & Co. this spring at 55 Main St., Suite 175. The store will sell gifts, home decor, furniture, lighting and bedding.
The company was approved for a grant not to exceed $25,000 .
Art Algebra Studio
The art studio with a coffee bar is expected to open this spring at 1001 Glade Road.
According to its Instagram page, the studio will carry globally sourced handmade art. The business has been doing pop-up art and coffee bars across Texas. The city awarded a grant of $15,000.
Azure Dental
Dr. Aditi Shah has moved her practice from another part of Colleyville to 5121 Thompson Terrace. The office will receive a $15,000 grant for its interior renovations. .
