A man suffered smoke inhalation, but two dogs were rescued early Tuesday in a Haltom City house fire, officials said.

A small attic fire injured a homeowner early Tuesday and led firefighters to rescue two dogs.

The man was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth for treatment of smoke inhalation. The fire was reported at 3 a.m. at a single-story home in the 2600 block of Thomas Road, less than a mile from a fire station.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze within minutes.

“The homeowner woke up when he smelled smoke,” Fire Marshal Fred Napp said. “He noticed a gray haze in the house. The fire was isolated in the attic, and it was just in the beginning stage.”

Firefighters found two dogs in the house and placed them in a carrier, officials said. They said an electrical problem in the attic may have caused the fire.
