Carroll ISD trustees fill Place 1 vacancy
At a July 14 special meeting, Carroll school board members selected Michelle Moore to fill the Place 1 vacancy.
Trustees interviewed five finalists in executive session before reconvening in open session to approve Moore for the slot.
Moore said she had considered running for school board and saw the vacancy as an opportunity to get involved.
“I want to help Carroll be the best district it can be,” she said. “We already have excellent results and great students, but we can do more.”
Board President Christopher Archer said Moore’s volunteer work in the district helped her stand out in the process.
She is on the board of the Carroll Education Foundation, served as vice president for Carroll Elementary and Eubanks Intermediate Parent Teacher Organizations and been on the board of the Southlake Association for Gifted and Talented.
Moore works in development for the United Negro College Fund and has two children in Carroll schools, a daughter going into seventh grade and a son going into fourth grade.
Over the last month, trustees sifted through 20 applications for the opening, left when long-time trustee Craig Rothmeier stepped down, and chose the top five for in-person interviews.
“Quite frankly, any of the five people we just spoke to would make a great addition to the board,” said Trustee Sheri Mills.
Matt Kormann, another board member, agreed. “I did not expect this to be the most difficult decision in my two years on the board,” he said.
Moore will serve in Place 1 until the May 2016 election and will have the choice whether or not to run. The seat will come up for election again for a three-year term in May 2017.
“I just want to thank everyone who went through the process and applied. We have some great parents and community members,” Archer said.
