Flooding extends Southlake road closure

Heavy rain in the spring caused extensive flooding in a north Southlake street, and recent rains have significantly prolonged the expected closure.

A portion of North White Chapel Boulevard near Camp Burnett has been closed since heavy rain fell in May.

While the water has slowly been released from the flooded area, a recent rainstorm has extended the closure, according to the city.

The city expects the road to be closed for at least the rest of the summer, possibly into the fall.

City Engineer Cheryl Taylor has said the water needed to be released slowly after the flooding from nearby Lake Grapevine receded, and once the water is gone, the city has to check the road’s integrity and make any necessary repairs.

Residents with questions about the flooding can contact Southlake Public Works Department at 817-748-8098.
