Plans are in the works to build lighted pickleball and tennis courts, expand the disc golf course and bring other improvements to Generations Park at Boys Ranch, the result of a $750,000 grant from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission.

Bedford was among 20 cities chosen to receive funds for parks projects.

Other improvements include the addition of picnic tables and benches and building a playground “shade structure.”

Molly Fox, a spokesperson for the city, said there is not a timeline for when work will begin.

Bedford will also money from the American Rescue Plan Act for the park improvements.

The park is home to the Bedford Center YMCA, which opened in January. Voters approved a $70 million bond in 2017 to redevelop Boys Ranch Park into Generations Park at Boys Ranch.

The park is also on the site of the former Bedford Boys Ranch. Fox told the Star-Telegram previously that it is important to highlight the Boys Ranch history. The Boys Ranch began in 1949, and was modeled after Boys Town, Nebraska, and was a home for boys who were wards of the court.
