Grapevine/Colleyville Heritage gets massive rally, comes up just short
The Grapevine/Colleyville Heritage varsity hockey team came back from a 4-1 deficit on Thursday night against Flower Mound/Marcus, but ended up losing 6-4 at the Farmers Branch Gainey Arena.
Grapevine/Colleyville Heritage was out-shot in the game 31-16.
Flower Mound/Marcus scored three unanswered goals to start the game and led 3-0 at the end of the first period.
Grapevine/Colleyville Heritage struck first in the second on an unassisted goal from Jordan Porter.
Flower Mound/Marcus scored again to make it a 4-1 game, before Daniel Detwiler cut the varsity team's deficit to two with under three minutes to play in the second period.
Grapevine/Colleyville Heritage trailed 4-2 heading into the third period.
Kevin Shea and Parker Mangone picked up the assists on the Detwiler goal.
The score remained 4-2 with 4:32 seconds to play, when Matthew Phillips scored on an assist from Brad Branscum to make it a one goal game.
The varsity team was able to tie it up with 45 seconds to go on Porter's second goal of the night, before surrendering two goals to finish out the game.
Aaron Brown earned an assist on Porter's second goal.
Porter was one of the three stars of the game and Grapevine/Colleyville Heritage did not have any penalties in the game.
The varsity team will travel to Frisco at 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 16 to take on Frisco at the Frisco Arena.
Faith names four players to all-district team
The Grapevine Faith Christian softball team had four players selected to the TAPPS 1-4A all-district squad this season.
Freshman catcher Sarah Howard earned second-team honors on the all-district team, while teammates Rae Williams (sophomore), Taylor Tryggestad (freshman) and Bailee Barrett (freshman) were all selected as honorable mentions.
Williams is an infielder/pitcher, Tryggestad is a pitcher/infielder and Barrett is a shortstop/pitcher.
Flag football registration now available
Fall Flag Football registration is now open through Stampede Sports for those interested in competing in the fall flag football season.
