Dogs and libraries usually don’t mix, but Southlake kids are taking advantage of a different kind of reading club.

Children are invited for a one-on-one session to read to Malbec, a Reading Education Assistance Dog (READ) every other weekend at the Southlake Public Library.

“Reading to a dog promotes a child’s love of books by providing an opportunity for them to practice their full range of communication skills,” says the library’s website. “Research indicates that positive experiences like this will help lay the foundation for a lifetime of learning and a higher quality of life.”

To register for a 15-minute block with Malbec, a certified therapy dog, call 817-748-8243 or visit the library page at www.cityofsouthlake.com.
