Ahead of the start of the 2022-23 school year for school districts in Tarrant County, the Tarrant Area Food Bank will hold food distributions for families in need and start expanded days and times at one of its locations.

Starting Aug. 6, Tarrant Area Food Bank will host one of its mobile pantry events at The Met Church, located at 11301 North Riverside Drive in Fort Worth. The event will be held every Saturday from 8 to 10 a.m. This mobile event previously took place on Fridays at W.G. Thomas Coliseum in Haltom City.

The new date and location is a permanent change, according to a statement by food bank officials.

Tarrant Area Food Bank’s monthly Off the Dock food distribution will be held Sunday at their Distribution Center, located at 2600 Cullen Street in Fort Worth, from 2-4 p.m.

The food bank also expanded dates and times for its west facility at Mission Market at 112 Winners Circle in Weatherford. Mission Market’s expanded days and times will be Monday and Thursday from 4-7 p.m. and Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

According to a statement by Tarrant Area Food Bank officials, the expanded times will allow for more people to have a dignified grocery shopping experience.

One in eight Texans, 4 million people, experience food insecurity, according to Feeding Texas, a nonprofit organization focused on ending hunger in the state.

Food insecurity is the lack of available household financial resources for food.

Organizations like the Tarrant Area Food Bank received 55% of its food from donations, 44% from government hunger relief programs. The remaining 1% is purchased.

Tarrant Area Food Bank serves 13 North Texas counties including Tarrant, Parker, Hood, Johnson and Somervell.
