Colleyville banks on vacant land for shopping, restaurants along commercial corridor

Colleyville is ready to hear from developers who want to bring restaurants and retail to the city.

Last year, Colleyville spent $2.5 million to buy about acres along the southern stretch of Colleyville Boulevard and Acuff Lane.

Assistant city manager Adrienne Lothery said the money to buy the vacant land came from a special tax district created to encourage economic development along the commercial corridor.

“Our intent is to sell the land and for it to be privately owned,” she said.

Colleyville created a rectangular-shaped piece of land from the properties, Lothery said.

There are several metal buildings on the land with businesses, including a custom frame shop and an insurance agency. The businesses are leasing from the city until August, she said.

Lothery said Colleyville wants to work with the businesses that are interested in finding another location in the city.

Colleyville is also beautifying and improving the road. The lighting and landscaping are finished, and work is underway to finish the gateways, or entrances into Colleyville.

The construction should be finished by the end of the year, Lothery said.

“I feel like Colleyville has done a nice job of bringing in commercial elements while staying true to the rural heritage of our community,” Lothery said.
