Area cities plan patriotic events
If you are looking for some family fun on the Fourth of July, there are plenty of patriotic festivities planned in Northeast Tarrant cities.
In Trophy Club, the fun starts July 2 with the Stars & Stripes celebration when residents and visitors will witness a display of nearly 40,000 American flags planted as they travel throughout the town.
A large part of the program features residents working together to line the streets with flags in a united sign of patriotism.
"Trophy Club has become a truly iconic community known for embracing patriotism," said Assistant Town Manager and Chief Finanical Officer Steven Glickman.
Route captains will organize teams to plant the flags 12 feet apart along the main streets in the town. These include Trophy Club Woods, Trophy Club Drive, Trophy Club Lakes, Indian Creek, Bobcat and Park View.
Each captain is responsible for 300-400 flags in their section and the flags will be displayed through July 5. There is a call to action for the project and volunteers are needed. Contact Jeannette Tiffany at jbtiffany@att.net or Michelle Reed at michellereed73@yahoo.com.
On July 4, the day will start with the annual Patriot 5K and Fun Run. Runners should arrive by 7 a.m., and the run begins at 7:15 a.m. Pre-registration is $20 and on-site registration from 6-6:45 a.m. is $25. Each pre-registrant gets a free T-shirt.
Breakfast will be served to all participants and spectators by Bara non-denomination church.
The Parade of Patriots, which this year honors all military veterans, starts at 9:30 a.m. at Byron Nelson High School.
Residents are encouraged to set up blankets and chairs along the parade route. Patriotic beads and American flags will be passed out 15 minutes prior to the start of the parade to all parade bystanders.
Those wishing to enter a float can do so for free. Parade floats will be judged for Best HOA or Neighborhood, Most Patriotic, Spirit of Trophy Club, Best Dressed Golf Cart, and Best Dressed Pet.
The day will end with the annual Celebration & Fireworks from 6-10 p.m. at Independence Park East. The event features a party with live music from Limelight, bounce houses, kids activities, good, free swimming and of course, fireworks.
"The July Fourth events last all day and offer something for everyone," said Glickman. "Trophy Club residents and guests from all over come together to commemorate our freedom and proud country."
